How to perform the Overhead Cable Curl
- 1Stand in the center of a cable station with the pulleys set just above shoulder height, attach handles, grab one in each hand, and step forward slightly so your arms are lifted out to the sides at about shoulder level with a small bend in your elbows and your palms facing toward your head, feet about hip-width apart and core braced tall.
- 2Curl your hands in toward the sides of your head by bending at the elbows while breathing out, pause and squeeze your biceps at the top, then slowly straighten your arms back to the starting position while breathing in, keeping your upper arms steady and movements smooth the whole time.
Coach tips
- Keep your elbows fixed in one spot instead of letting them swing forward, so the biceps do most of the work.
- Avoid arching your lower back or shrugging your shoulders; keep your ribs down, chest tall, and core tight.
- Use a weight you can fully control so you can lower the handles slowly instead of letting the weight pull your arms back too fast.
